BLOG Mozambique - What to pack

Mozambique is a sought after tropical beach destination. It has the longest coastline in Africa, with white sands, turquoise waters and plenty of sunshine. This makes Mozambique a great spot to relax and an excellent place for watersports.

If you are planning to visit Mozambique, it is important to know what the weather is like, to help you decide what to pack. As in many parts of Africa, there are two main seasons, a rainy season and a dry season. The rains, accompanied by hot and humid weather, usually starts around October and last as long as April. From April onwards you can enjoy cooler, much more moderate weather, making it the best time to travel to this tropical paradise.

So now that you have an idea of when you should go (May – October), you may ask, ‘what should I wear?’ Firstly, Mozambique is a Malaria risk area. This is not a problem though, you can take preventative medication, pack the necessary anti-mosquito spray and basically all the establishments have mosquito nets. Clothing-wise it is a good idea to pack comfortable clothing like light cotton shirts and shorts, and of course don’t forget the bathing suite! To keep the mosquitoes at bay it is best to wear long sleeved shirts and pants during early evening hours and at night. As with any destination it is advisable to take with a warm top, just in case!

The sun offers beautiful days of relaxation and beach fun, but be sure to pack a sun-hat, sunglasses and sunscreen (to stay comfortable and relaxed)! Also pack a pair of slip-slops (sandals) and more comfortable trainers to explore with.

But you won’t just need clothes; the right accessories are vital too. Make sure to pack your camera. It is also a good idea to pack extra batteries and memory cards, as you may struggle to find these in Mozambique. And make a note to check what kind of electrical plugs and/or adaptors you may need for any electronic equipment and chargers.

The most important thing to take with you is probably your sense of adventure and the knowledge that this is an African country, so things may not always go as planned, but what is guaranteed, is an incredible experience.
