Tear yourself away from Victoria Falls

If you’ve spent many an hour marvelling at the view and being cooled by the spray of the Falls, then take a break and spend some time exploring the colourful streets of Victoria Falls Town and experiencing all it has to offer.

Learn on a cultural tour

Share a meal with the locals, learn about its fascinating history and absorb the atmosphere of a town that still maintains an essence of the excitement of 19TH century historical exploration. Participants will be driven about 20kms from Victoria Falls Town to a small rural village.   The tour gives a good first-hand account of life as a villager and often enlists visitors help with daily chores. This offers a humbling insight into one of the many rural communities of Zimbabwe.

Explore the Craft Village

Be surrounded by the products of the incredible artistic talent of the local people who have limited resources. Craft plays a major role in African culture, and here is where you will find inexpensive handmade items like beautiful carved walking sticks, animal figurines, fabrics and jewellery. Although there is the option of bartering for items, keep in mind that money made here is often their only source of income.

Visit the Crocodile Ranch

About 35 000 crocs are cared for at this sanctuary, and a tour will give you unique insight into these mostly feared and often misunderstood pre-historic beasts.  If you are lucky enough to visit during hatching season, then you will be able to get a close-up experience and touch a baby croc. There is also a souvenir shop where you can get something croc related to remind you of your day spent with the Nile crocodiles.

Dinner at the Boma Restaurant

This is the place to visit for an authentic Zimbabwe experience. On the menu you’ll find warthog, impala, crocodile and the local delicacy, mopani worms, amongst many others. The atmosphere is vibrant with the sound of dancing and drums which you are invited to try, and sometimes there is even a sangoma, who for a price, will literally throw the bones to tell your fortune.

Take a cycle tour

There are two cycling tour options to choose from, both run from the Victoria Falls Hotel and both offer early morning or late afternoon rides, lasting a couple of hours each.
